Technology Trends that will Dominate the Education Landscape in 2018!

Technological innovations have permeated every sphere of our lives. Education is no exception. Technology has twisted the anatomy of the education process, giving a whole new meaning to what we thought we knew and what we were accustomed to. Dynamic technological ecosystem has given rise to new, better and efficient learning methodologies. Rapid increase in internet connectivity has aided the growth of Edtech platforms which are eliminating the barriers to quality education.
From instant sharing of information to easy access to learning programmes, here’s how technology will transform the education processes in 2018-

1. Virtual Reality (VR)- It is now an undeniable fact that conventional learning methods keep student engagement passive and concept retention rate low.
Participatory techniques such as Augmented Reality, VR and animation, gamification give students first-hand experience through visual representations and graphical stimulation. These techniques simplify complicated theories, thereby, increasing retention rate and engagement of students.

2. Data Analytics- Big data and data analytics are engendering new learning methodologies by giving educators an insight into the factors that affect overall academic growth of students.
In India, application of data analytics, for instance, established the fact that the dropout rate amongst girls between 11 and 14 years lowers after the introduction of separate toilets in schools for them.
With technological advancements, increasing digitisation and availability of enriched data sets, data scientists are now equipped to find solutions to the deep-rooted problems of education sector in India.

3. Cloud Technology- Educational institutions are required to scale up their digital infrastructure to create enriching e-learning experience. The greatest advantage of cloud technologies is that they create a centralised repository of knowledge for students ensuring sustained learning irrespective of students’ geographical positioning. Cloud technologies take student-teacher collaboration beyond traditional classroom setting and benefits students by reducing the cost of services while adding to their intellect.

4. Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence- AI is transforming pedagogical processes in ways unimagined. Machine learning has far-reaching effects on students’ learning capabilities and human intelligence. AI-driven algorithms create behavioural models by analysing individual data sets. Based on these models, the algorithms develop a profound understanding of students’ strengths and weaknesses and craft unique personalised training paths exacting the requirement of each and every student. This enable students to learn at an optimal rate and to deliver best results.

Aforementioned technologies are set to be game-changers in times to come, with tangible results being perceptible from 2018. Technological innovations are, thus, compelling us to abandon outworn education processes and to immerse in the rapidly evolving realm of unbridled learning.
